Highlights of the second quarter report of TRAI

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India comes out with a report every quarter. The report is all about the condition of telecom sector in the country. They have recently come up with their report for the period April-June 2009.

A few of the key points have been given as follows:

At the end of June 2009, the number of internet subscribers had risen to 14.05 million which is an approximate rise of 3.80% on quarterly basis.

The share of broadband has also seen a rise from 46% in March 2009 to 47% in June 2009.

Also the average income from the dialup service has risen from Rs. 236.47 in the last quarter to Rs 243.50 in the second quarter.

There has been depreciation in the performance by wireless service providers. There has however been more congestion in the network as noted by TRAI but the voice clarity has improved overtime.

Also, there has been a drop in the average revenue earned from each user which is Rs.185 for GSM users and Rs.92 for CDMA users.
