It was just a couple of days that rumors of Microsoft planning to launch some mobile handsets was doing rounds and now we learn that pictures of its upcoming handsets named Turtle and Pure have got leaked, courtesy Gizmodo.

“These phones are going to be made by Sharp, who’ll get to share branding with Microsoft. Sharp produced the Sidekick hardware for Danger, who was bought by Microsoft two years ago. Pink will be primarily aimed at the same market as the Sidekick (teenagers), and the branding and identity for it is highly developed, pointing toward a later stage in the development cycle,” writes Gizmodo.

The Turtle is being referred to as a younger version of Palm Pre which will attract teenagers because of its look. It has a camera but apparently no flash. This might keep the handset’s cost a bit lower.

For Microsoft Pure, it can be very well said that it will give tough competition to handsets such as HTC Pro. The slider phone has middle-end features and bubble-plastic keys.

Leading travel and hotel search engine Sprice.com (www.sprice.com) has gone mobile. iPhone users worldwide will now be able to search over 120,000 hotels globally on their iPhones using the power and convenience of the innovative ‘Sprice Hotels’ app.

All it takes is a quick download of Sprice Hotels app, absolutely free, from the online Apple App store. Compatible with all iPhone generations including the latest 3G S version, the Sprice Hotels application allows users to quickly and easily search for hotels in an intelligent manner.

Sprice Hotels generates important data with the search, including information about the hotel such as location map, photos, hotel guest reviews and amenities, as well as real-time offers and discounts on room rates. In addition, users can choose to filter the search results by the hotel’s room rates, user rating and even the distance from whichever landmarks they choose as the start point.

“The launch of our mobile application Sprice Hotels is a natural progression for our travel search engine, as the pool of mobile users around the world continues to expand exponentially. Since Sprice.com was launched in 2007, we have received positive feedback from consumers all over the world and in Asia Pacific. Demand for our online hotel search product has consistently been on the rise with visitorship reaching a record of three million globally,” said Vikas Gulati, Vice President of Sprice.com, Asia Pacific.

“The Sprice Hotels iPhone App empowers travellers to make last-minute booking decisions, even as they are en route to their destinations. Like Sprice.com, the mobile application is also very user-friendly. We are pleased to be working with Apple to extend such a powerful travel search tool to millions of iPhone users worldwide.”

Sprice Hotels serves as a dynamic marketing platform for travel providers. Earlier this year, Apple announced that its global iPhone sales peaked and grew by 245% in 2008¹, and it expects this growth to continue. Over 200 of Sprice.com’s travel partners around the world, including online travel agents and hoteliers, can reach out to tech-savvy consumers on the move directly and more effectively through Sprice Hotels.

Bangalore: By finding water on the lunar surface, India’s maiden lunar mission Chandrayaan-1 has completed “110 percent of the objectives”, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman G. Madhavan Nair said here Friday.

Disagreeing with a section of the media, which dubbed the moon mission a ‘failure’ when it was abruptly aborted Aug 30 after Chandrayaan lost radio contact with the earth, Nair maintained that it was a wonderful mission.

“Earlier I had stated that it had completed 95 percent of its scientific objectives. Today, I will say it has completed 110 percent of the objectives,” Nair told reporters.

“The presence of water molecules on the lunar surface has shattered the belief that the moon is bone dry,” Nair told reporters.

The ISRO chairman, however, made it clear that as per the data available there is no life on the moon.

Terming the stunning discovery as path-breaking for humankind, Nair said the volume of data collected by the mooncraft has been phenomenal and has filled computers in the Indian space agency as well as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the US.

“We had very dramatic moments in this mission starting from its launch Oct 22, 2008, onwards. We as Indians can be really proud that we have contributed to the significant finding of water on the moon through our Chandrayaan-1,” Nair said.

On the prospects of future missions, the ISRO chairman said as the earth’s nearest celestial object, the moon could be converted into a base for inter-planetary exploration or for scientists to study solar system.

“Either manned or unmanned observatory may become essential on the moon. If we want to achieve that, the basic element is water. We also need water for sustaining life and beyond that it could be used for various purposes such as fuel for rockets,” Nair pointed out.

The abundance of sunlight will enable scientists to convert it into electricity. Lunar water can be split into hydrogen and oxygen and used as fuel for various purposes, including missions to Mars and other planets in the solar system.

“There is a wide variety of applications. But we have to find adequate quantities of water. We know that from 70 degrees latitude onwards, there are traces of water molecules and the belief that it could be more in the poles is strengthened. Once we can confirm that, it could be of great benefit for future exploration of planetary system,” Nair noted.

Till now, there is no detailed wording on this however. According to Wheels Unplugged, Ford B517 is the name of the new car which will be seen in markets in March 2010.

In order to be able to meet up the Indian govt.’s meaning of a small car, it will have 1.2 litre and 1.5 litre engine capacity respectively for petrol and diesel.

The Indian content of the car will form its 85%. It has also come to be known that Ford is in talks with Tata Steel Co. for cheaper supply of steel.

This is the latest plan by Ford, wherein, it wants to incorporate car designs from all over the globe and come out with medium size cars so that the brand can increase its productivity as well as profits.

Further, it revealed that number of 3G handsets is expected to reach 395 million approx.

The figures seem to be overestimated, especially, when we look at the fact that the 3G service will mostly be used by urban population which also has easy access to other high speed internet services.

4 parts out of 5 of 3G users will be urban segment of the society in 2013. the rural segment will, however, take nearly four to five years to show a boom in the 3G industry.

This will also lead to a rise in the demand for videos, mobile magazines, comic strips and other similar content.

The report appears to be pretty optimistic!
